How to Export Your MyInvestor Transactions to Excel
MyInvestor is one of the banks that makes it easy: you don't have to guess the format or wrestle with an odd file. It documents two downloads with names of their own —one in PDF and one in Excel— and both live in the same place. Here's the exact route, which one to pick depending on what you want it for, and how far back the history goes.
The Route: See More Information
Everything about your transactions hangs off the account detail:
- Log in to MyInvestor. In the Global Position you see all your products: accounts, deposits, funds, cards and loans.
- Open your current account detail.
- Click «See more information» and scroll down to the Documentation section.
This is the process described in MyInvestor's own help pages: from there you download the statement or the movement summary.
The Excel: «Movement summary»
Inside Documentation, the option you want is called, word for word, «Movement summary» (Resumen de movimientos): it downloads all the cash transactions tied to your account to Excel. You click and the file downloads to your device.
Excel rather than PDF is exactly what you want if you're going to analyse: it arrives as a table you can sort, total up by category and import into a finance app.
The PDF: «Account statement»
Next to it is the other download, «Account statement» (Extracto de cuenta), which downloads all your transactions as a PDF. It's the «official» document: handy for presenting if you're asked —for some errand or formality— but not for working with the data, because a PDF is a picture of the statement, not a table.
Excel or PDF: Which to Choose
Quick rule: Excel to analyse, PDF to present. If your goal is to see where your money goes, stick with the «Movement summary». And handing them over isn't a favour from the bank: the Bank of Spain's Bank Customer Portal points out that your bank is required to report your account transactions to you, and downloading them yourself carries no fee, unlike requesting a duplicate at a branch.
How Many Months to Download
For a realistic picture of your spending, download at least one full month; to spot patterns, three to twelve months. And it's by checking your statement regularly that you catch your «ant expenses», those subscriptions and micro-purchases you only spot once you line them up. If you bank with more than one institution, we also cover Santander, BBVA and ING.
Once You Have the Excel File, Then What?
Downloading it is half the job. The other half —the part that actually tells you something— is categorising every transaction. By hand in a spreadsheet it works the first month and gets abandoned the second. That Excel file can also be imported into accounting software, but for personal finances there's something more direct.
In Inveriok you upload MyInvestor's «Movement summary» and it categorises itself: you see your categories, your savings rate and your ant expenses without typing anything in. And if you'd rather not download a file every month, you can log transactions by hand: that's how transaction import works, with no bank connection and no credentials shared with anyone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does MyInvestor let you export transactions to Excel?
Yes, and it documents it in those exact words. In your current account detail, inside «See more information» and the Documentation section, MyInvestor offers a «Movement summary» that downloads all the account's cash transactions to Excel. That's the format you want for analysing or importing the data.
What's the difference between the statement and the movement summary?
In MyInvestor, the «Account statement» downloads as a PDF with all your transactions —handy as a document— and the «Movement summary» downloads as Excel —handy for working with the data—. To see where your money goes you want the second one; the PDF, only if you're asked for it as proof.
Where do I find the download in MyInvestor?
On the website: Global Position, open your current account, click «See more information» and look for the Documentation section. That's where the «Account statement» (PDF) and the «Movement summary» (Excel) live. The app lets you check them; for the Excel file use the website, which gives you more download options.
Do I have to connect my MyInvestor account to any app?
No. The Excel file you download is yours to open and analyse wherever you like, without giving your MyInvestor credentials to any third party or authorising access to your account. Downloading your own transactions from online banking is free.
