How to Export Your ING Transactions to Excel

How to Export Your ING Transactions to Excel

If you keep your finances in a spreadsheet or an app, sooner or later you'll need the same thing: your ING account transactions in a file you can open in Excel. Banks and lenders ask for it too when you apply for a mortgage or a loan. The good news is ING lets you download it in a couple of clicks. Here's how, from the website and from your phone, and what to watch out for.

From the website (Área Clientes)

This is the most convenient route, since it downloads straight to Excel. Once you're logged in:

  1. Go to ing.es and log into your Área Clientes (client area).
  2. Open the account you want (for example, your salary account).
  3. Adjust the period using the date filter to narrow down the transactions.
  4. Click the export / download icon, which appears right above the transaction list.
  5. An Excel file downloads with the period's transactions. Save it.

ING caps each download at 250 transactions. If you get an error or have a lot of activity, download it in shorter date ranges and merge them afterwards. Menu names can change with updates.

From the mobile app

In the app you can view and filter transactions by date and, from the account detail, share or download the statement. To work with the data in a spreadsheet, the website remains the most convenient route, since it exports to Excel.

Excel, CSV or PDF? Which to choose

  • Excel: what the ING website offers, and the most convenient for analysing in a spreadsheet.
  • CSV: the universal format almost every finance app understands. If you need CSV, open the Excel file and use "Save as → CSV."
  • PDF: only for archiving or printing. Not usable for analysis or import: it's a picture of the statement, not data.

How many months to download

To see where your money goes, download at least one full month. If it's for a mortgage application, banks usually ask for the last 3 to 6 months. Keep the 250-transaction-per-download limit in mind: if you're a heavy transaction user, download month by month — which also makes it easier to catch your small recurring expenses along the way.

Once you have the Excel file, then what?

Downloading it is only half the job. The other half — the part that actually tells you something — is categorising every transaction to see where your money goes. Doing that by hand in Excel works for month one and gets abandoned by month two.

In Inveriok, you upload that same ING Excel file and it categorises itself: you see your income statement, your savings rate and your small recurring expenses without typing anything in. And if you'd rather not upload a file every month, you can log transactions by hand instead: that's how transaction import works, with no bank connection and no credentials shared with anyone.

Frequently asked questions

What format does ING use to download transactions?

From the website (Área Clientes), ING downloads them in Excel. If you need CSV, open the Excel file and save it as CSV from your spreadsheet app. The PDF statement is only good for archiving, not for analysis or import.

How many transactions can I download at once from ING?

ING caps each download at 250 transactions. If you have more or get an error, download in shorter date ranges and merge them afterwards.

Do I need to connect my bank to an app for this?

No. Downloading the Excel file creates a file that's yours to analyse anywhere, without giving any third party access to your banking credentials.

Can I use the PDF statement to import my transactions?

No. The PDF is an image of the statement; to import or analyse the data you need the file in Excel (or CSV).
