How to Export Openbank Transactions to Excel
Openbank is 100% digital, so everything happens on the website or app — and downloading your transactions to view in Excel is no exception. Sooner or later you'll want the same thing: your transactions in a file you can open in a spreadsheet to see where your money is going, or to justify expenses or prepare a tax return. Here's how to download them in Excel or CSV, from both the website and the app, and what to keep in mind.
From the website (openbank.es)
The most convenient option if you're downloading several months:
- Log in at openbank.es with your credentials.
- Go to Accounts and select your current account.
- Open Transactions.
- Apply the date filter for the period you need.
- Click download / export and choose the format (Excel or CSV for analysis).
From the mobile app
If you manage everything from your phone:
- Open the Openbank app and log in.
- Go to your current account and tap Transactions.
- Select the period you want to export.
- Look for the share / export option (usually a download or share icon).
- Choose the format and save the file or email it to yourself.
Openbank lets you generate a transaction certificate covering up to 24 months of history. If you need more, download it in stages. Menus may change with website and app updates.
Excel, CSV or PDF — which to choose
- Excel / CSV: what you want for analysis. CSV is lighter and more universal (almost every app understands it); Excel includes visual formatting. Both work.
- PDF: only for filing or proof. Not usable for analysis or import: it's a snapshot of the statement, not data.
How many months to download
To see where your money is going, download at least one full month. If it's to review your finances for the year, pull the last 3 to 12 months. And while you're at it, reviewing the statement is the best time to catch small recurring expenses: the subscriptions and small purchases that add up without you noticing.
And once you have the Excel file, what next?
Downloading it is only half the job. The other half — the part that actually tells you something — is categorising each transaction to see where your money goes. Doing it by hand in Excel works the first month and gets abandoned the second.
In Inveriok you upload that same Openbank Excel or CSV file and it self-categorises: you see your income statement, your savings rate and your small recurring expenses without typing anything. And if you'd rather not upload a file every month, you can log transactions manually: here's how transaction import works, without connecting your bank or handing your credentials to anyone.
Frequently asked questions
What formats does Openbank offer for downloading transactions?
Openbank lets you download your statement or certificate in Excel, CSV or PDF. To analyse your spending or import it into an app, choose Excel or CSV; PDF is only for filing, not for working with the data.
How much history can I export from Openbank?
Openbank lets you generate a transaction certificate covering up to 24 months of history. To review your spending, downloading 3 to 12 months is more than enough.
Excel or CSV for Openbank?
Both work for analysis. CSV is lighter and more universal; Excel includes visual formatting. If your tool supports both, CSV usually causes fewer issues.
Do I need to connect my bank to an app for this?
No. Generating the statement creates a file of your own that you can analyse wherever you like, without giving your Openbank credentials to any third party.
