How to Export Your BBVA Transactions to Excel

How to Export Your BBVA Transactions to Excel

If you keep your finances in a spreadsheet or an app, sooner or later you'll need the same thing: your BBVA account transactions in a file you can open in Excel. Banks and lenders ask for it too when you apply for a mortgage or a loan. The good news is BBVA lets you download it in a couple of clicks. Here's how, from the website and from your phone, and which format to pick depending on what you want to do with it.

From the website (bbva.es)

This is the most convenient route, since it downloads straight to Excel. Once you're logged into your online banking:

  1. Go to bbva.es and log into your client area.
  2. Go to the Accounts section and select the account you want.
  3. Open its Transactions (or "Statement").
  4. Adjust the period using the date filter: pick the range you need.
  5. Click Download / Export.
  6. Choose the format: Excel (.xlsx) or CSV. Confirm and save the file.

From the mobile app

The process is similar, though the app usually offers different formats:

  1. Open the BBVA app and log in.
  2. Go into the account and its transactions.
  3. Filter by the period you want.
  4. Tap the download or share icon (usually top right).
  5. Choose the format. In the app it's usually PDF and CSV: to work with it in a spreadsheet, choose CSV (PDF won't work for that).
  6. Save it to your phone or email it to yourself.

Exact menu names can change with online banking updates; the underlying logic (Account → Transactions → date filter → Download) stays the same.

Excel, CSV or PDF? Which to choose

  • Excel (.xlsx): the most convenient if you'll work with it in a spreadsheet. Available from the website.
  • CSV: also opens in Excel or Google Sheets, and it's the format almost every finance app understands. This is what you want for importing your transactions into another tool.
  • PDF: only for archiving or printing. Not usable for analysis or import: it's a picture of the statement, not data.

How many months to download

For a useful picture of where your money goes, download at least one full month. If it's for a mortgage application, banks usually ask for the last 3 to 6 months. And if you want to genuinely spot your patterns — and catch your small recurring drains on spending — the more history, the better. Some banks limit how many months they show at once, so you may need to download it in chunks.

Once you have the Excel file, then what?

Downloading it is only half the job. The other half — the part that actually tells you something — is categorising every transaction to see where your money goes. Doing that by hand in Excel works for month one and gets abandoned by month two.

In Inveriok, you upload that same BBVA Excel or CSV file and it categorises itself: you see your income statement, your savings rate and your small recurring expenses without typing anything in. And if you'd rather not upload a file every month, you can log transactions by hand instead: that's how transaction import works, with no bank connection and no credentials shared with anyone.

Frequently asked questions

What format does BBVA use to download transactions?

From the website you can choose Excel (.xlsx) or CSV; the app usually offers PDF or CSV. To analyse the data in a spreadsheet or import it into a finance app, use Excel or CSV — PDF won't work for that.

Can I download the full history since I opened the account?

Yes, by widening the date filter to the range you need. Some banks limit how many months they show at once, so you may need to download it in chunks and merge them.

Do I need to connect my bank to an app for this?

No. Downloading the Excel or CSV file creates a file that's yours to analyse anywhere, without giving any third party access to your banking credentials.

Can I use the PDF statement to import my transactions?

No. The PDF is an image of the statement; to import or analyse the data you need the file in Excel or CSV.
